00 Paper Cup Ink

$55.00

The 00 Paper Cup is part of the ‘Tea-drenched Vessels’ series by Chong Office. Handcrafted with Porcelain and finished with an Ink glaze.

Every piece is handmade and marked by Melbourne-based artist, Casey Chong (a.k.a. Chong Office), hence resulted in unique and one-of-a-kind forms and variations between each piece.

Approximately ø 50 x 75 mm in dimensions and can hold approximately 90ml capacity. Use it for teas, espresso, your favourite spirits, or as a vessel for the flowers you picked from your garden.. anything!

Handwashing is recommended to keep our pieces in your life :) Direct heat and sudden temperature changes may cause thermal shock, which, over time, can damage and crack your pieces.

Part of the ‘Tea-Drenched Vessels’ series, Chong interplays with the forms, materials and functionality of the paper cup, a common, convenient and highly disposable everyday object. Particularly in Hong Kong where everything has to be fast, efficient and convenient, interaction with paper cups, of various sizes, is on a very regular basis without even realising. The form of disposed cups is often developed from the user’s traits, such as the preferred way to hold a cup.

With 00 Paper Cup, Chong recreated the used-paper-cup form with a more refined and durable material, Porcelain, with a high gloss finish - a polar opposite of the original media. In the process of crafting new forms with clay, she had the tactile feeling of how users might experience when holding and created ergonomic silhouettes that offer a user’s (herself) ‘comfort-hold’ form to other users. The piece is crafted by slipcasting while the form was manipulated at the pre-set stage and stamped with Chong's marking.

About Chong Office.

Chong Office is an independent artist practice showcasing Casey Chong’s spontaneous, ongoing works, processes, and explorations. The ‘office’ began as a personal platform in 2018 to share her creative processes and experiments, to collaborate with other creatives while studying furniture design, and then became a continued representation of her creative ‘alter ego’ in broader context.

Chong is a Melbourne-based designer and artist whose works explore the relationships between materials, aesthetics, and the senses, bringing together eccentric yet functional artworks that border furniture, sculpture, and crafted objects. Utilising resin as the primary medium for her works, Chong has created objects ranging from stools and side tables to vases and drinkware over the past couple of years. She always explore possibilities in new mediums, particularly more sustainable materials, which have now led her to explore porcelain, recycled plastic, and many more to come.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, she moved to Australia in her early 20s, experiencing a diverse hybrid of cultural influences alongside her Chinese heritage. She embrace the ambiguity and contradiction throughout her creative process. The intimacy of personal interactions and experiences is always intertwined with the outcomes, bending the rules of what many consider traditional. It’s merely flexible.
